- Dried grass
- Dried leaves

Placement:
- Set your bumble bee box on dry ground, mulch, or a solid surface like a brick or stone.
- Choose a shady spot (the north side of your house is ideal in Florida).
Attract bees naturally
- Plant native flowers nearby that provide pollen and nectar.
- Avoid pesticides in your yard.
After the Season
Bumble bees typically use the box for about 6 months.
At the end of the season:
- Remove old nesting material.
- Wipe out the box with a dry brush or damp cloth.
- Let it air dry in the sun before storing or reusing next season.
Cleaning is just like our birdhouses—simple, safe, and natural.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Will honey bees use this box too?
No—this box is designed for native bumble bees, not honey bees, which prefer hives with larger colonies.
2. Do bumble bees sting?
Bumble bees are generally gentle and non-aggressive. They’ll only sting if directly threatened.
3. When will bees move in?
Queens begin searching for nesting spots in early spring, so set your box out before then for the best chance.
4. What happens after the colony dies off?
The colony naturally ends in late summer or early fall. Clean the box and store it for next season.
